The Troon Beach Tournament Organisers took the decision to move the tournament to May this year to hopefully mirror the fabulous weather of the Junior Beach Festival. Although the temperatures were not quite mirrored from the previous Sunday, the sun shone and beach wear and sun cream was in evidence. The beach was in superb condition and must surely be one of the top locations for Beach Volleyball in Scotland. The passing crowds were as entertained as ever to a competitive and fun display of top class beach volleyball.
The event saw 64 competitors take part and the competition was as fierce as ever.
In the Men's Div II Ricky Diamond and Ben Taylor won the event, beating Jamie Salvin and Calum Moir in the final 22-20, 21-15.
In Men's Div I Colin Paterson and Konrad Krawczyk beat Barry McGuigan and Gavin Watt in two sets in a highly competitive final match 21-19, 21-17.
In the Women's division Linsey Bunten and Gillian Lyall cracked under the strong serving and defence of Mel Coutts and Eilidh Smith losing in an easy two sets 21-11, 21-12.
In the mixed fours the youngsters of Troon won the three way tournament beating Jets and Linlithgow to take the title.
Thanks to all of Troon VC, Colin Paterson and South Ayrshire Council for their assistance with the event.
Here's to August for the second event in Troon!
