Fantastic results from GB Women at World Championships in Rome

Mullin and Dampney finished with a 17th place at the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Rome, following a straight sets defeat to two-time Olympic Gold Medallists Walsh/May-Treanor from the USA 13-21, 12-21 last night. (You can watch this match online here.)

Mullin-Dampney qualified for the Round of 32 knock-out stages, as one of the best eight third placed teams from the pools, following their three-set defeat at the hands of Chinese pair Xue-Zhang Xi 21-19, 11-21, 10-15. (You can watch this match online here.)
Mullin and Dampney will play twice Olympic Gold Medallists, Misty May and Kerri Walsh in the next round.
Johns-Boulton bowed out of the competition with a straight sets defeat at the hands of local pair Cicolari-Menegatti 17-21, 15-21 for a 33rd place finish. (You can watch their match online here.)

Denise Johns and Lucy Boulton went down in straight sets to Fendrick-Hanson of the USA 16-21, 12-21.
Mullin-Dampney recorded their first World Championship win by beating 32 seeds Candelas-Garcia from Mexico in straight sets 21-17, 21-19.
Johns-Boulton also completed their first victory in a World Championship match, beating Dutch pair Van der Hoeven-Van der Vlist in straight sets 21-18, 21-18.

Shauna Mullin and Zara Dampney were slow out of the blocks against Swiss pair Kuhn-Zumkehr, a team they beat last month in Shanghai, losing 11-21, 16-21.
