WHAT     “Flagship Clubs… a blueprint to being a great volleyball club”

Clubs are at the heart of our sport and undoubtedly are our best resource.  As part of our quest to make volleyball in Scotland ‘bigger, better and stronger’, plans are forming to take collective and positive action to ensure that our best resource is resourced for the best!

Flagship Clubs is the working title for our exciting club improvement programme which will see a blueprint to being a great volleyball club begin to take shape over the lifetime of our new Strategic Plan.

WHY        “building on our existing strong club foundations”

We want to be clear from the start.  This is not just another accreditation scheme.  It isn’t hoop jumping, red tape nor is it a box ticking exercise.    The major changes happening in our sporting landscape (e.g. Commonwealth Games, Olympics, grant cuts, etc., etc.) bring challenge as well as opportunity.

We have to be ready to take the potential for growth in our sport within our stride.  We don’t need to reinvent the wheel; we can do this together by building on our existing strong club foundations.  The Flagship Clubs Concept is about making our already established clubs even better than they are now, and helping them to meet the challenges and opportunities before us.

HOW        “Good practice where it exists… invent[ing] it where it does not”

Building on our current strong foundations in many areas of club practice, we will be leading and enabling club volunteers, officials, coaches and administrators to identify, capture and develop more good practice where it exists and invent it where it does not.  The next phase will be to share it around and help our sport become sustainable for the duration.

As a fairly small governing body of sport in Scotland with finite resource, the best way we can see to take positive action at this time is to help clubs to help themselves.  We will be supporting volunteers, officials and administrators with the introduction of a new Club and Participation Development Officer.  Part of the post holders remit will be to provide practical development support to clubs at grass roots level also known as helping clubs to help themselves.

Together we will be pinpointing and adding to good practice in our clubs:  covering indoor, beach and sitting disciplines, junior and senior levels as well as competition pathways and recreational strands of activity.  Common areas to be addressed will be finance and governance, development, administration and how we can make a political impact together.

WHO        “SVA is our clubs…. this is what we need from you”

Fact:  the Scottish Volleyball Association is our clubs.  We will help you by signposting, engaging and supporting you.  In return we want to hear your views at this early stage in the process as to what a blueprint to being a great volleyball club will look, feel and be like.  Please take the time to input by completing the easy survey that follows:-
