Great Britain Women Cycle 250
The big day arrived where the team hung up there knee pads and don there chamois leather cycling shorts for the Cycle 250 bike ride from Sheffield to London to raise awareness of our sport and importantly raise money for the GBW’s programme.
The team held a press launch on the 24th July in Sheffield City Centre along with a ‘come & try it’ Volleyball court set up in Tudor Square smack bang in the centre of town alongside some street entertainers and other London 2012 Open Weekend activities. The team were giving out flyers, selling raffle tickets and taking donations/sponsorship for their Cycle 250 event. Pictures can be seen on GB Women’s new website – www.gbwomensvolleyball.co.uk.
The Cycle 250 bike ride has taken a huge amount of organization from the people brought on board as well as the players themselves. The following companies and individuals have supplied us goods in kind, all totally FREE:
- DeVere Hotels (The Village, Coventry & Wokefield Park, Reading) – 2 nights FREE accommodation for 24 people
- Wiggle cycle gear (2 shorts, 2 shirts, jacket for each cyclist)
- Get Cycling provided 24 bikes & helmets for the 4 day duration, as well as the supply of a trailer and ‘love bike’ for promotions at the stopping points and a mechanic who will join us along the whole route
- Bloc sunglasess for each cyclist
- CNP Nutrition & Hydration products
- Waitrose – water and snacks
- Boots – one days ‘meal deal’ lunches
- Event T-Shirts + Printing x30 from Rhino sports, Sheffield
- Restaurant in Nottingham providing dinner for the whole group
- Restaurant in Reading providing dinner for the whole group

Vertex our FTSE 100 partner have joined in the fun too. A member of staff Sally Booth, will take part on the Day 3 Stratford leg. Vertex will also host the team at their Westminster offices on Tuesday 27th July at 2.30pm. Other members of staff will join the cycle group for part of the London leg.
The ride will culminate at Earls Court around 5pm on Tuesday 27th July which we all know is 2 years to the day when the Olympic Games will open in London.
