As with previous seasons, the Thistle Bowl and Scottish Plate take centre stage on the Saturday of this event. The first match of the weekend will see South Ayrshire take on Dundee in the Men’s Thistle Bowl. Last years winners South Ayrshire will be hoping to retain their title against John Scrimgeour’s side. The second match of the day has an eastern spice feel to this. University of Edinburgh take on the youngsters of City of Edinburgh II in the Scottish Plate Final. Edinburgh Uni player Ross Kirkwood left City last season to concentrate on his studies and now finds himself competing against his former team mates.
The Women’s Plate commences at 2.30pm with North Grampian taking on first time finalists Perth VC. North Grampian again has made another Final, and they will be hoping to make the long trip north with their hands on the Scottish Plate title.
In the last match of the day on Saturday, Division 2 Winners Su Ragazzi II will take on Paul McPate’s University of Dundee. The students from the City of Discovery will be hoping to make it a double as they will also be competing in the Regional League Finals earlier in the day.
Sunday of Finals Weekend always brings the best of the current stars together with the best of the future stars. The first match of the morning will see Marr College take on North Lanarkshire Ragazzi in the Women’s Junior Super Cup final. Current U18 JNL champions Marr College will be looking to reverse the result from last year which saw NL Ragazzi take the cup. The Men’s Junior Super Cup final will bring together up to 6 players from the Gold Medal winning U20 European team as Team Lanarkshire take on City of Edinburgh.
The Men’s Scottish Cup will see League Winner Edinburgh Jets take on Playoff Champions Glasgow Mets. Mets have had the upperhand winning the last 2 matches against Jets but, the Edinburgh side will be hoping to complete the League and Cup double for the first time in their history.
In the Women’s Scottish Cup, QTS Troon Team Ayrshire have successfully qualified for yet another final. Coach Vince Krawczyk knows what it takes to win this match but the team find themselves up against in-form Playoff Champions Edinburgh Jets. This match is sure to be one for the spectators.
Finals Weekend will be as spectacular as ever this year. The taraflex match court will be laid, the music will be entertaining, the announcers will be fabulous, but to make really memorable, special and worthwhile moments, we need the Scottish Volleyball audience to come and support this weekend with their voices, drums, horns or anything that makes a noise!
