Men’s National Team

The Senior Men squad are off to Iceland on Thursday 19th May – not to do their shopping, but to compete in the Small Nations Qualifier. This Qualifier is doubling up as the 1st Round of the World Championships. So, in essence, the top two teams in the group will qualify for the Small nations Finals next year (also in Iceland), but they will also qualify for the 2nd round of the World Championships. The 2nd round will take place in May next year, and will consist of 6 tournaments of 6 teams. This would give us five matches at a level we have not experienced for a number of years. So, the motivation for the players is clear to see.

Our opponents in Iceland will be Cyprus, Andorra, and Iceland. So, we need to win at least 2 of these games to qualify. Our first match is on Friday at 8 pm ( 9pm in Scotland) against the hosts. We then play Andorra on the Saturday at 3 pm (4pm Scotland) and finish up with Cyprus on the Sunday, again at 3 pm.

The players who have been selected for the trip are as follows:

Alan Krawczyk (capt) Glasgow Mets
Alistair Galloway City of Glasgow Ragazzi
Niall Collin City of Edinburgh
Seain Cook Langhenkel Orion
Scott Wilson South Ayrshire
Jamie McHardy London Polonia

We are all aware that the event will be tough, but we have had good preparation.  Last Sunday’s scrimmage match was particularly impressive, showing power and precision in abundance.  So, the players are all fit and raring to go, and eager to get into the action. We will be keeping everyone up to date on our progress through the SVA Facebook page, so please visit over the weekend.
