No I’m not talking about these big tall, athletic, sweaty volleyball players! I’m talking about the special Special Events Team! We are a group of hard working, volleyball enthusiasts who you will see come out of hiding at volleyball events in Scotland.

We want to make our team bigger and stronger to make volleyball events in this country bigger and even better. With the Olympics coming to Britain in 2012, Scotland will be hoping to attract higher profile events and matches to our country. This means, we need more people to help out, offering their expertise and enthusiasm to a dedicated team.

The Special Events team are a small group who work from behind the scenes to set up each event. We arrive the day before wielding our boxes of tape and bags of equipment to set up the venue, leaving only when everything looks perfect. We are there on the day of the events, and while the players are battling it out on the court, we weave quietly round the court checking equipment, tidying player areas and making sure the important referees, line judges and ball retrievers are looked after. Then once the players and referees have retired to their homes (not the pub of course!) we sweep in and collect up all our equipment in record time!

The Special Events team work hard, but we also do it with a large amount of humour and some very jolly banter! We enjoy what we do, and it makes us feel even happier when we see the players and officials enjoying the events.

o why not join us? It’s a great way of helping your sport, making your sport better, and also meeting new people in your sport. We do need some new members of special events to boost our numbers and really attract some higher profile events to this country.

So if you can join us for every event or even just offer some time to help with a few events, we would love to hear from you. I can guarantee that you will enjoy being part of the Special Events team as I have been doing it for years, and enjoyed every minute of it!
