Scottish Student Festival
A new addition to the Scottish Volleyball calendar appears in March, with
the first-ever Scottish Student Festival, being held at the University of Dundee.
The event is the brainchild of the SVA Student Commission and recognises the increasing numbers of student volleyballers in the country. The Scottish Student Festival, which will be held over the weekend of 17th /18th March, is open to all college and university students and will provide 12 courts for 4 a-side play. Also included on the menu is beach volleyball, which is scheduled to take place the following day at Broughty Ferry beach.
Teams will be able to enter either a recreational or competitive division, providing for the wide range of abilities. Volleyball is one of the most popular sports within the university sector, with a large number of overseas students continuing the sport in their time in Scotland and, with almost 20 college teams having entered this year’s Scottish Colleges Championship, the sport is also rapidly developing within the college sector.
It is hoped that up to 48 student teams will enter the inaugural festival in what will be an excellent showcase for the sport. Further details and information will be circulated directly to tertiary education institutions, but any initial enquiries can be directed to Paul McPate, Student Commission President, at p.mcpate@dundee.ac.uk.
