Student Volunteer of the Year Award
Scottish student volleyball recognised one of its most worthy volunteers recently when the first-ever Scottish Student Volleyball Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Kim Tissington of Glasgow Caledonian University VC.
The Scottish Student Volunteer of the Year Award recognises the huge investment that many student volunteers make to their host volleyball club, during a time when they are also balancing the increasing demands of studying for a degree and making ends meet through part time working and other commitments.
Kim was one of four worthy nominees for the award, the others being George Welsh from Dundee University, Abby O’Connor from Edinburgh University and Nyree Bell from Stirling University.
However the Student Commission chose Kim as the recipient of the first award due in particular to the essential role that she has played in keeping her university club operational in an environment where there is a huge turnover of oversees players every year. Kim’s dedication to the club and the administrative work she has undertaken has ensured that Glasgow Caledonian VC continues to participate and offer opportunities for students who wish to play competitive or recreational volleyball.
Fittingly, Kim received the award in front of her club mates and family at the recent Glasgow Caledonian v Aberdeen league match, allowing her peers to acknowledge her hard work. Well done Kim!!
