Coach Education heads North!

Working closely with the Aberdeen District Association the SVA Coach Education and Development Programme is heading North!  Aberdeen will be the base for two interlinked events, which are designed to help develop the level of coaching knowledge and practice of those participating.

First up is a CPD Clinic aimed at improving current practice.  This two day event will take place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th January at the Shell Woodbank facility. The broad outline for the clinic is;

Day 1 theme – introducing the game

  • This would include the development of fundamental movement patterns, developing passing skills, and working in 2 v 2 and 3 v 3 game formats.
  • The target age range of the participants would be S1 – S3

Day 2 theme – developing performance.

  • It would look at drilling for ball control, developing attacking skills, and working in a  6 v 6 format
  • The target age range of the participants would be Junior age players (S4 – S6)

This clinic is aimed at coaches and teachers who are working with young volleyball players, and who want to get the latest up-to-date information and methodologies for developing ball control and problem solving skills.  The coaching themes will be preparation and planning, and the critical skill of observation and analyses.

The second event will be the presentation of a UKCC level I Volleyball Coaching Award.  The dates will be;  Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th February, and Sunday 14th February.  The UKCC course is the first step on the coach education ladder.  The course looks in detail at the skills of the Coach at the introductory level, as well as the content required to start the learning and development processes. The course is aimed at those who want to make a start in the coaching process

All of the details for this course – venue, times, costs involved etc will be available soon. Keep the dates free in your diary!
