The YS Women are ‘back in town’

Young SeniorsThe first session of the new Scotland under 20’s women’s programme took place at Coatbridge High School on Sunday 14th March.

The turnout of players was fantastic. 25 players from across Scotland attended the event. They were from a wide range of clubs with South Ayrshire, Troon, Su Ragazzi, Dundee, Carnoustie, City of Edinburgh and North Lanarkshire all represented. Who said that we don’t have lots of talented young women players in Scotland?

The physical effort and concentration levels that were demonstrated by all were outstanding. Yes, there were physical, technical and tactical shortcomings throughout the group in varying degrees but the willingness to change, improve, support and commit was there in abundance. Everyone who attended is welcome, no expected, to attend the next session in April.

The responsibility of the coaches is to provide the information and opportunities that will bring out the best in this group. Four coaches and a team manager supported the session and there are commitments by at least four other coaches to be involved in the programme, which is good news for the development of the players.

Young SeniorsThe responsibility of the players is to acknowledge what an honour it is to be training with an international group and for them to give their all physically, intellectually and emotionally to this great life chance that has been offered to them.

The plan for the competitive programme is still being developed, however the next training session will be in April and the first competitive event is planned as the last weekend in May at the Scottish Open.

At the moment, there is still an ‘open door’ invitation to the next training session in April and if you did not attend on Sunday then you should ask your coach to nominate you through the SVA offices for that session. The national coaches will also be extending invitations to players who were not available on Sunday 14th March. Keep your eyes open for the date of the next session !!

Finally I would say ‘thank you’ to everyone involved for what was a memorable day. The juggernaut is off and running everyone. Get on board and help us get to the best destination possible.
