P7/S1 Drumbrae Schools Festival

The P7/S1 Schools Festival took place once again at Drumbrae Leisure Centre. With a maximum number of entries of teams, this was sure to be a great day of volleyball and it didn’t disappoint.

The level of the Schools Festivals continues to amaze me, which is testament to all the hard work the teachers and club coaches are putting into the development of these young athletes. It is not only the volleyball that is fantastic, but the level of sportsmanship between all the players, staff and coaches.

The competition got underway as normal and it was clear right from the beginning that the schools who are normally ‘in the mix’ would continue to do so. Marr College, Belmont Academy, Belmont House and Moffat all made it through to the top pool in the girls while Belmont Academy, Queensferry High School, Moffat and Kyle Academy progressed into the Boys.

Marr CollegeIn the Girls pool, Marr College once again showed their dominance on the Girls School Festival front by convincingly winning all their matches. Belmont Academy A fell just short of overturning Marr’s dominance.

In the Boys pool, Queensferry High School pipped out Kyle Academy A on points difference. The level between the boys teams was very close with all teams winning a match in this pool meaning the result of the pool went down to the last match.

As with every School Festival, there are 2 participants who showed their worth not only on the court, but also in their sportsmanship and the way they distinguish themselves.

The winners of the MACVolley Sportsperson of the Festivals were Findlay Scott of Marr College and Layla Donnelly of Belmont Academy.
