Troon Volleyball Club were the hosts for the Scottish Beach Volleyball Tour at South Beach, Troon. The tour has visited Aberdeen for the Grampian Open, Edinburgh’s Portobello beach, St. Andrews Silver Sands so far this summer as well as an invitational event on a purpose built court outside Glasgow’s Riverside Museum.
Troon beach in the morning had perfect weather for some top quality beach volleyball-fortunately not as warm as the previous day (not often you get to say that in Scotland!) and flat calm conditions. The sand was expertly prepared by South Ayrshire Council and was very much appreciated by the 20 teams who travelled from the length and breadth of the country to play.
The women’s competition was won by the new pairing of experienced beach player Gillian Lyall and Claire Ramage they beat another new pairing of Linsey Bunten and Mel Traynor -Northern Irish indoor and beach internationalist.
The men’s competition was won by Mariusz Chudzik and Jaroslaw Pasko. Both finals were close affairs with a deciding set needed to separate the teams- conditions had became a little more tricky with some wind and rain coming in to add to the challenge!
There was also 3 recreational 4v4 teams who thoroughly enjoyed their day on the beach- winding things up just as the weather began to change! Special thanks go to the Scottish Beach Volleyball Commission and Troon volleyball club sponsors QTS.
Also to all the people who helped make the day run smoothly- namely Colin Paterson, Ally Duncan, Jenny Jones, Gordon Cree and Jenny Krawczyk.
