2015 Scottish District Cup

The 2015 Scottish District Cup took place at the University of Dundee ISE District CUp 1this weekend with the maximum number of entries reached in record time.

16 teams descended on the ISE all aiming to leave with the title of Scottish District Cup Champions. With new entrants Livingston Lizards, Edinburgh Jets, Dunedin, VolleyPolska and Scotstoun joining the regulars of City of Edinburgh, Linlithgow Hornets, Team Fife, DBD’s,  Arbroath and Dundee University, the day was set up for a fantastic competition.

The morning pools started off with a bang with the new teams showing their intentions very early with Scotstoun controlling their pool and VolleyPolska pushing last years champions Team Fife all the way. 8 teams worked hard in the morning to progress into the Cup competition while the other 8 were looking forward to fighting it out in the Plate Competition.

The Plate Competition was tough for all teams as the matches were all close, in Pool 7, Lorn, Arbroath, Dunedin and Edinburgh Jets II fought it out with Arbriath proving successful. In Pool 8, Team Edinburgh, Linlithgow Hornets, Livingston Lizards and Dunfermline Phoenix battled it out for the top spot with Linlithgow Hornets proving successful.

The Final was extremely close but an ill-disciplined net fault and a service error in the last 2 minutes ensured Arbroath maintained their lead and took the Plate Competition.

In the Cup Competition, Pool 5 featured reigning champions Team Fife, City of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Jets I and DBD’s. Close matches in the afternoon pools which showed a fantastic level of play saw Team Fife reach their 2nd successive Final. Their opponents in the final were Scotstoun who overcame VolleyPolska, Dundee University and Livingston Lizards I to progress to their first final.

The final was fast and powerful but Scotstoun edged it after Team Fife ran out of steam.

The 2015 Scottish District Cup was fantastic and is a great advert to the work the clubs are doing below the National League level.

Looking forward to next year already.
