MACvolley S456 Aberdeen Festival

The competition saw budding school teams decend on the granite city all the way from Grangemouth to Stromness, all with fantastic enthusiasm and a desire to learn and imporve.

It was Grangemouth HS’ first entry into the MACvolley programme and after only a handful of volleyball sessions prior to entering, they really held their own and improved significantly as the day went on and were a breath of fresh air in the tournament. It is great to see what can be achieved in such a short space of time!

A 33 strong contingent from Stromness Academy travelled overnight on the ferry from Orkney to attend the festival. The day was a brilliant mix of schools and levels all competing in the MACvolley spirit.

For many pupils it was also their first experience of being on a referees stand, or using a line-judge flag, however, all schools and individuals took to the task with unbelievable enthusiasm and in return the teams and players showed great sportsmanship, it was a real pleasure to witness.

There was a significant amount of lengthy rallies in the girls competition as players showed great individual desire to compete. It was Stromness Academy who took the brand new trophy away with them after some impressive displays.

Kinross High School took the Boys title after a very competitive top pool, with Stromness pushing all the way in their attempts to make  it an Orkney double. The experience that the Kinross boys have gained from bring part of the new Perth & Kinross Junior VC in the Junior SVL is starting to pay divdends in the boys’ level of play.

A massive thank you to ASV and to all the schools and staff who made such a great effort in terms of organising as well as encouraging and developing their pupils in our amazing sport.

There is still some spaces left in the MACvolley festival programme, please see http://yzujgdt.cluster028.hosting.ovh.net/schools/school-festivals for more information on how you can enter and get involved with this year’s exciting programme.
