2016 School Games – Day 2

School Games – DAY TWO

The second day contained the opening fixtures for the Scotland West Girls and the Scotland East Girls, but in total there was 10 matches involving Scottish teams.

There was plenty of action for the tartan army of parents, supporters and officials there to support the teams. As always the saltires were outnumbering all the other flags put together.

Our young athletes responded to the magnificent support with some spirited displays throughout the day.

A lot of our athletes also got to take part in Inspirational mentoring sessions with GB Olympic Captain and Athlete Mentor, Ben Pipes. This aspect alongside the anti-doping seminars provide an extra layer of experience for our young athletes to take from the games.

The Scotland West Boys team showed significant progress through-out the day, outing on a great showing against tournament favourites England Juniors before narrowly losing to Northern Ireland in the final game of the day, but showing significant promise for the future if the players commit to playing in the Junior SVL and continue their development.

The Scotland East Boys had a tough schedule with playing both England sides with a match against Wales Sandwiches in between, the English sides proved to be too strong for Scotland East, but the boys managed to prove too strong for Wales with some promising performances from all 12 squad players throughout all three games.

The Scotland East Girls had an impressive day winning both of their matches 2-0 firstly against Scotland West before maintaining their performance against Northern Ireland. If they can get past Wales and favourites England Cadets tomorrow, they can still qualify for the Gold Medal match on Sunday.

The Scotland West Girls had three matches to play in the one day, opening with a comfortable win over Northern Ireland and finishing with a comfortable win over Wales, just the disappointing performance against their East counterparts in between, however, the girls still have the exciting and motivating prospect of both England teams to play in Saturday’s matches.
