Broughty Ferry Beach Volleyball Championships took place on the shore of the River Tay on Saturday July 15.
Fourteen men’s division one teams, three men’s division two pairs and seven women’s division one teams took to the sand in the pretty Tayside town.
Having already triumphed at St Andrews, Pawel Kaniowski and Hristan Alashki once again romped home in the men’s second division. The Aberdeen-based pair are returning to their home countries for the rest of the summer but have vowed to step up and test themselves at division one level next year.
In the women’s event, a hard fought final saw Magdalena Golczyk and Ewelina Michalik overcome Sharon Versteeg and Maria Manolopolou in an enthralling game that saw great pieces of skill from all four players.
In the men’s premiere event, top seeds Seain Cook and Robin Miedzybrodski didn’t drop a set all day en route to a final that saw them beat Marc McLaughlin and Eddie Gorecki two sets to nil.
Glasgow based Marc and Eddie played well but the talents of Seain and Robin were on another level to the rest of the field. Everyone wishes them the best of success qualifying to represent Scotland at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.
A huge thanks to Petr Kolomaznik, Peter Aitchison and Davie McEwan for helping set up and – above all – to Gerry MacDonald for his tremendous assistance before, during and after the event. It couldn’t have gone ahead without the efforts of these fine gentlemen.
