CEV and Scotland sign historic agreement to promote Volleyball at school

Luxembourg, March 13, 2018. CEV President Aleksandar Boričić and the Chief Executive Officer of the Scottish Volleyball Association and CEV Vice President, Ms Margaret Ann Fleming, signed on Tuesday a truly historic agreement involving Sport Scotland, i.e. the national agency for sport, for the implementation of the CEV’s “Volleyball at School” project in Scotland. It is a truly historic moment for Volleyball in Scotland as well as for the CEV in terms of joining forces with national authorities for the promotion and development of Volleyball at grass-roots level.
“We aim to make Volleyball bigger, better and stronger in Scotland. This project will support this strategy by enabling us to reach more schools, teachers, young people, parents and careers. We will be growing a bigger base of schools, teachers, young people, parents and careers who engage with our sport,” Ms Fleming said. “The CEV educational tools and the festivals will allow us to show and share best practice making the quality of Volleyball events, competitions, coaching better. With the combination of events, education and engagement this project will make our sport stronger in Scotland.”
The Scottish Volleyball Association have identified the following major goals:
- Grow primary/secondary/student engagement with Volleyball and increase their educational resources to support students/teachers/coaches in this sector.
- Growing the visibility of their partnership with the CEV across communities nationally.
- Increase awareness of Volleyball to teachers/parents and provide a positive Volleyball experience to the community.
- Connecting all new participants/teachers/parents with the wider Volleyball community in Scotland.
- Strengthening their existing partnerships with the Scottish Government, Sport Scotland, Active Schools and Local Authorities.
One other key aspect is their strategic plan to increase school affiliation and junior club membership. This figure currently sits at 74 affiliated schools and just over 700 school memberships. This project will support the Scottish Volleyball Association’s ambitious targets to raise these figures and give them the resources to sustain this growth. From the potential projected figures, this project alone could support Scotland’s Volleyball family in almost tripling their number of affiliated schools but also double their school membership.
The project, which will run until the end of March 2021, will also:
- Provide an opportunity for Scottish youth to engage with active and healthier lifestyle
- Develop and maintain resources that support quality delivery to the students in Scotland
- Widen the reach of the federation within schools Volleyball (schools affiliation)
- Increase the appeal of Volleyball nationally within schools
- Embed Volleyball within the educational system
- Increase teachers Volleyball awareness/knowledge/understanding
- Connect new participants with federation structure/player/volunteer/coach pathway
The project involves Sport Scotland, i.e. National funding body for sport in Scotland, the Scottish Government, the CEV, Volleyball for Scotland, Education Scotland, local authorities and Scottish Student Sport.
