Child Protection & Wellbeing in Sport (Virtual Course)

In these difficult times of isolation, Scottish Volleyball is offering coaches and clubs the opportunity to upskill their understanding of Child Protection by hosting an Online Child Protection & Wellbeing in Sport (CWPS) course in partnership with sportscotland via a Virtual Classroom on Thursday 9th April from 6pm-9pm.

This course is suitable for all adults involved in sports organisations that have participants under the age of 18. It is targeted at all practitioners, i.e. all coaches and volunteers over the age of 16 working and volunteering directly with children and young people.

The former UK Coaching Safeguarding & Protecting Children workshop has been discontinued and replaced with Child Wellbeing & Protection in Sport (CWPS), created by sportscotland in partnership with Children 1st to refresh and update the content to reflect changes in society and sport and be more relevant for current coaching practice.

Taking a blended learning approach, the main change is the inclusion of an e Learning (Module 1) which is theory-based, followed by a three-hour face-to-face online training course (Module 2) that puts the learning from Module 1 into context and practice.

Clubs who have players under the age of 18 will be expected to have a Child Protection & Wellbeing Officer who has completed the relevant courses. This course is Course 1 of 2 in order to fulfil this role.

The Child Protection & Wellbeing Officer course will be delivered later (date tbc).

What is a virtual classroom?

A virtual classroom is an online learning environment, which is interactive, and you can access if form the comfort of your own home.  You can see and talk live to the course tutors, other participants, ask questions and view slides / video content.  The course will be delivered in the virtual classroom in an interactive style, similar in style and content as if you attended a face-to-face workshop.

The tutors will lead you through the learning outcomes, providing information, facilitating discussions for the whole group and managing small breakout groups.
