Friday 5th June 2020. Today marks the end of a positive and inspiring week for Scottish Volleyball. Scottish Volleyball started a collaboration with the Italian Volleyball Federation and the first outcome of this collaboration was having Marco Mencarelli and Vincenzo Fanizza as guest speakers of our coaching month.
On Wednesday we had a more technical chat with coach Mencarelli. He explained what his methodological approach with a focus on the side out phase. Marco Mencarelli shared some video clips and did a small video analysis with us. He showed two different players performing the same skill in a very different way.
He analysed the transition from passing to attack in two different players, which means two different approaches to the same situation. We had a look at Michelle Bartsch from the US women’s national team and then we had a look at Loveth Omoruyi, a young Italian Volleyball player who plays for Club Italia. Our participants had the chance to engage and ceased the opportunity to ask many questions.
On Thursday we had the opportunity to have an in-depth chat about the men’s junior sector in Italy. Vincenzo Fanizza, who won the U19 world championship last year, was our guest. He thoroughly explained what the new concept of the Club Italia is and how the national federation engages with the local clubs, to give the juniors the chance to develop as an athlete and reach the elite levels in our sport. Vincenzo shared with us the passion he has for the sport and shared that his best reward for what he does is to see his players excelling.
Marco and Vincenzo shared with us some very valuable information and we are sure that if we had more time to spend with them, we would have kept talking for hours! A massive thank you goes to the Italian Volleyball Federation for the start of what looks like to be a new strong collaboration between our two countries.
