Coaches Commission Update

Home / Coaching & Workforce / Coaches Commission Update

2018 is proving to be a very busy year for the members of the Coaches Commission. The ‘busyness’ started in January when the first of the ‘CC on the Road’ took place.  This initiative aims to include more people in the CC discussions by staging the meetings at various venues throughout Scotland.  The first On the Road meeting took place in Aberdeen, and included several ‘new’ faces who contributed to the outcome of some significant changes to the Coaching picture.

The busyness continued through the Spring when we welcomed a new Commission member from Aberdeen University Volleyball Club, and two significant decisions were made.  The members of the Coaches Commission have spent a great many hours discussing the SVA’s involvement with the UKCC programme for Coach Education.

Finally, for a number of very good reasons, the decision was made to withdraw from the UKCC programme, and instead establish our own Coach Education programme.  This bold step was unanimously supported by the members of the CC, and also by the coaches who attended the ‘on the road’ session in Aberdeen.

Plans are well underway to write and produce the new SVA courses.

Also in the Spring the CC made the decision to upgrade the Coach Registration programme which currently exists, to a Coach Licensing system.  The details of the coach licensing scheme are being worked out.  The changes that are envisaged will be introduced gradually, with the full licensing system being applied at the beginning of the 2021 season.

At the beginning of the Summer, the Coaches Commission working in partnership with the Beach Commission, presented a hugely successful Level 2 Beach Coaching course, and two very well received CPD workshops in Portobello.  The CPD workshops were delivered by the Gold Coast Coaching Staff and the clear opinion of those who participated in the sunshine was ‘can we have some more please!’…….busy indeed!

If you would like to join the Coaches Commission your first step would be to get in touch with the Commission President at the SVA.  Alternatively, if you would like to see a CC On the Road meeting take place near you, then again get in touch and we will make it happen.
