Cup semi-finals and qualifiers round up

This past weekend saw teams from all over Scotland fight for their place in the Cup and Plate finals held next month in Edinburgh.

At Edinburgh Granton we saw the Cup semi-finals. Four outstanding matches with some of the best teams in Scotland involved. On the men’s side, City of Edinburgh won against NUVOC in 3 sets with good performances shown by both teams. Jets and the University of Edinburgh fought until the very last point in the 5th set to get the final spot, with the University of Edinburgh eventually prevailing to win 3:2. This was followed by another 5-set match on the women’s side which saw the University of Edinburgh 1 win against the very tough opposition of City of Edinburgh, with great play shown by both teams. The last match of the day was concluded with a victory for Caledonia West over Su Ragazzi, an exciting match which Caledonia West managed to bring home in 3 sets. The finals will then see City of Edinburgh vs University of Edinburgh for the men and the University of Edinburgh vs Caledonia West for the women.

Meanwhile, in Prestwick, teams were battling it out on court in the bid to make the Plate finals. First up was Forza Ragazzi, taking on Stirling University. A close first saw Stirling take an early lead, but Forza fought back, winning the next 3 to take the match 3:1. Stirling University were back on court next, this time their women’s team taking on Dundee Volleyball Club. Both teams played brilliantly, with Dundee claiming the win 3:0, booking their slot in the finals. Back to the men’s matches with a student only affair next up, Edinburgh Napier taking on the University of Andrews. Some big hits followed, with St Andrews taking the 1st set, and Napier fighting right back to take the 2nd. St Andrew’s experience however helped them in the next sets, winning the match 3-1. Finally, Glasgow International took on Edinburgh Women’s 2s, who’s counterparts stormed to victory in the cup semi-finals. Glasgow played some amazing volleyball to take the win 3:0. The Plate finals will be Glasgow International v Dundee for the women and St Andrews University v Forza Ragazzi for the men. More details about the Cup and Plate finals will be published this week!
