Edinburgh Sports Academy

We are delighted to announce a fantastic partnership between SVA, City of Edinburgh Council and the University of Edinburgh Sport and Exercise, sees the inception of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball into Edinburgh Council Sports Academy, providing a training and player education programme to support players (S1 & S2 in August 2018) with aspirations to reach the next level in their volleyball/beach volleyball journey. This development has been a long time in the making, through work with our Regional Development Officer, Lynne Beattie, the CEC and the Edinburgh Active Schools Team.

The programme will be delivered by specialist coaches and supported by Scotland’s Olympic and Commonwealth Games Volleyball and Beach Volleyball athletes to enhance the learning experience for the pupils, in line with the Curriculum for Excellence, where the players will receive support and training to allow them to perform at their personal best, both in their sport and in their everyday lives.

Players will have the opportunity to work with coaches in both disciplines of Volleyball; Indoor and Beach, in what will be a comprehensive and holistic training programme for all selected players, focussing in areas of on court and off court development and education sessions including strength and Conditioning for volleyball, Sports Tactics, Team Dynamics for Volleyball and Leadership.

Part of the programme will take place in the world class sports facility at the University of Edinburgh, Centre for Sport and Exercise, a central location, and elite environment accessible to players from all across Edinburgh, where some of Scotland’s top athletes train and compete. The lead coach of the programme is Team GB and Team Scotland’s Olympian and Commonwealth Games athlete Lynne Beattie, supported by a youth development coaching team.
