Our intrepid sand people braved torrential rains and howling gusts to participate in the first leg of our Scottish Beach Volleyball Tour on Saturday 8 June 2019.
Yep! June! A summer month but not in Scotland and definitely not in Edinburgh. There were glimmers of sunshine but not too many. Thankfully, players – our hardy players – took the elements by storm and delivered some great games. Embracing the conditions with literal water of a ducks back attitude over four and a half thousands serves were made over 5 categories by some 39 teams.
It was a true spectacle in the making and thankfully later in the day the weather cleared up in time for the final stages.
The senior men’s divison saw top seeds Riddle & Gorecki take 1st place despite a valiant effort from Stewart & Brown in trying to upset the bookies favourites.
Senior Women’s division saw the Edinburgh University duo of Morrison & Verdu Schile winning reasonably comfortably against Nania & Fischer 21-16, 21-14 in the final.
Women’s Divison 2 saw travelling English pair Eassom & Maerttonen-Arol win their final over the pretty chilled out young team of Wroblewska & Hall.
Special recognition has to go to all our junior competitors who delivered some great beach despite the conditions. It is well worth remembering these names as we will be hearing of them all in the future

Thank you to all those who helped set up and strip the event.Those of you from NUVOC Volleyball Club, you did a great job as event hosts.
