Scottish Regional Grass League

Over the past 13 months, competitive volleyball has been missing from our calendar and the membership has been waiting very patiently for a return to competitive sport.

This leads us to the fantastic news that Scottish Volleyball has organised a Regional Grass League to take place between June and August 2021. On completion of the leagues, the winners of each region, dependent on numbers, will be invited to take part in the Regional Grass Finals at a Central Location.

This opportunity has arisen to grow the local demand for volleyball working with clubs and District Associations to ensure a sustainable development and a safe return to our sport.

The format for the Regional Grass League will comprise of 4v4 single fixtures (best of 3 sets using Beach Scoring) which are arranged at a time to suit all parties. All matches will default to a Sunday but there is flexibility around the arrangement of these games. Ultimately, we want everyone playing and enjoying the sport they love. This is also a great opportunity for Indoor Teams planning to enter Season 21/22 to get much needed ‘return to volleyball’ before moving to the indoor space.

The Competitions we are offering in regions are as follows:

Men’s Competition
Women’s Competition
Mixed Competition (Must have a minimum of 1 female on court at all times)

Participants are permitted to play in both a single gender and mixed competition.

Scottish Volleyball will support in conjunction with local partners in the following areas:

Aberdeen / Aberdeenshire
Ayrshire
Angus & Dundee
Central Scotland
Lothian & Borders
Glasgow & Dunbartonshire
Perth, Kinross & Fife

We are still working with our friends in Orkney & Shetland to offer something within their area.

The main focus is on play, but we will have a very basic set of rules to ensure the competition is valid and fair for everyone, Scottish Volleyball shall provide these.

Teams will require to have their own nets to arrange matches against their opposition. This should not be a barrier to your entry, Scottish Volleyball can link you to our ‘Pop Up and Play’ clubs or other local clubs in your area.

Cost

In the face of this pandemic, we are aware of financial hardship people will be facing so we have set the fees at the lowest possible cost to Scottish Volleyball:

Team Entry – £30
Player Membership – £3 (All players must have a Tier 3 Membership)

As Scottish Volleyball currently works on the recovery of our clubs and sport, we are hoping you understand the need to generate membership income by creating a new competition with has exceptional value to you and your club.

All fixtures, results and updates will be uploaded and maintained on the Scottish Volleyball website through the work of the Scottish Volleyball Office. We would also love your match reports and photos to publicise the good work that is happening in our volleyball community.

As with all organised volleyball activity, this opportunity is subject to further easing of the Scottish Government restrictions over the coming weeks.  For the most recent update for organised volleyball activity please visit www.scottishvolleyball.org. Competition and activity spaces for these matches should follow all Scottish Government, public health and Scottish Volleyball Play it safe guidance.
