Scottish Volleyball statement on coronavirus

Dear staff member, member, official, volunteer and club,

The Scottish Volleyball Association would like to assure all of its members that the CEO and staff members are monitoring the current situation regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Current guidance from the World Health Organisation is:

  • To wash hands frequently
  • To maintain social distancing
  • To avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
  • To practice respiratory hygiene
  • If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early
  • To stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider

Scottish Volleyball is working closely with sportscotland and will follow advice from them and the Scottish Government regarding any event cancellations; currently we are happy to confirm all planned fixtures will continue as normal.   The primary concern of the SVA is always the health and well being of our members and we will take every necessary measure as recommended by the relevant bodies in order to ensure this.

The current guidance is to carry on with sporting and leisure activity, including large scale events – but to be mindful of basic hygiene and careful to avoid unnecessary physical contact such as handshakes etc. We shall endorse this at the SVA events and competitions, including this Saturday’s Scottish Cup Semi-finals at Perth UHI. We kindly ask that all participating teams do not shake hands either prior to their match or afterwards, this includes all officials, volunteers and SVA staff.

We encourage everyone to stay informed and to follow both the WHO and NHS guidelines that can be found following the links below:

If you have been travelling outside of the UK in recent weeks, please read the government guidelines for returning travellers here: www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public#returning-travellers before you attend any Scottish Volleyball events.

We are looking forward to an exciting day of volleyball on Saturday – best of luck to everyone competing in the Scottish Cup and Plate semi-finals!

Margaret Ann Fleming
