It is with great pleasure that we can announce that Jennifer Dowens has been awarded the Torch Trophy Trust Award for Volunteer of the Year. Jen was nominated by the Association for her volunteer work at numerous Volleyball events, such as the Top Teams Cup, National Cup, Plate and Thistle Bowl Finals, Junior National League Finals and European World Championship Qualifiers.
Jen is the Chair of the International and Special Events Committee for the Scottish Volleyball Association, a position which involves a vast amount of time and travel. Jen not only works on the event days but is also involved in the days, weeks and months prior to the event, working with the professional staff of the SVA and the British Volleyball Federation.
Many people turn up to these events without the understanding of the hours spent organising and preparing behind the scenes and expect the day to run smoothly. Without people like Jen this would simply not happen. As well as being employed full time as a Physical Education teacher, Jen works tirelessly before, during and long after the events, has a constant smile on her face and her continued enthusiasm to promote volleyball has made her a worthy winner of this award!
The award Cermony will be held in London on the 16th of November.
