Well done to all who attended the second session for the UKSG development programme What a great turnout of players from all over the country!
The session was organised to allow for further practice for the players, and another opportunity for the Staff to work with some great young talent. The practice session was followed by a walk to Meadowbank Stadium where the GB Teams were playing in the European League.
Romania provided the opposition for the GB Women, while Croatia did the same for the men, and the Scottish UKSG Squads did a fantastic job of ‘raising the roof’ to support the players. There were lots of Scottish players on show in the ‘big matches’. Players like GB Captain Lynne Beattie, like Jo Morgan and Jen Thom, like Chris Lamont, Mark McGivern and Andy Benson. Players who began their volleyball careers in school clubs, moved onto the National League, and then the Scottish National Team Programmes………and some of the UKSG Squad players who watched these matches will unquestionably ‘walk that same pathway’.
The next practice session for the UKSG Squads will be on Saturday 20th June. The women’s programme will be at Wishaw Sports Centre, the men will be at Meadowmill Sports Centre. Both groups will work from 10.00 – 16.00. Why not attend? Even if you haven’t been before you will be made most welcome. Volleyball is a great sport, and the UKSG Programme is a great way to become involved in it. Getting selected for the actual games’ team is obviously one of the targets, but even if you do not get selected this year the practice sessions will help improve your performance, and are a great way to meet some of the people who are involved in Scottish Volleyball. If you are able to attend on Saturday it would be helpful if you notified us beforehand, but this is not essential. The main thing is to get you to the venue, introduce you to the staff and the players, and help you have a great day.
